’Tis the Season | Tackle Trading
≈ To everything, there is a season. ≈
“To everything
There is a season
And a time to every purpose
Under heaven”
Another quarter, another earnings season. Emotions are high, the atmosphere is highly flammable, uncertainty becomes creepier than ever, IV rankings are way up to the last percentile and conference calls (and tweets) can ruin an entire day. Coach Mark said on Monday “Many traders have contemplated if this is the final catalyst needed to send the market to all-time highs.”
You’ve heard that before: Keep it simple. To do so, we recommend you take two approaches. Not one OR the other, but both together.
- Do not deal with earnings with your bare hands because you can get burned. Use caution and protection when necessary.
- Have rules for everything. In other words, have a system.
These two approaches can make you go pretty far. Or, at least to the other side of the river in case things go badly.
Don’t try to find problems where they don’t exist. Don’t try to dig to the center of the Earth, when a mere 13-feet digging can lead you to the lost treasures of the old.
“A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together”
Chart of the Day: Vol Crush
A time to build up, a time to break down”.
Every quarter we get to see the vol crush phenomenon. Some stocks have more like a fading IV but others have an immaculate, impeccable, cliff. Perfect for Theta traders to take advantage of.
